We headed down to Turnmills for CITY LOUD'S second birthday and arrived to find
crowds of people who all seemed eager to gain entrance, both paying & guest list
queues were packed even though it was still only 11 O'clock. If you hate queues I
would advice that you arrive before 11pm as after 11pm I did notice a huge
increase in people arriving properly due to people coming out of bars & pubs.

The door staff sure were working hard to get people into the club as quickly as
possible but the sudden rush of people all at the same time did slow down the progress.

City Loud had managed to get the one and only Frankie Knukles "The Godfather of house"
for their second birthday bash and this was to be his first UK appearance in 2003,
with a special 5 hour set.

After entering Turnmills and heading down a flight of stairs, you come straight to
the main bar, which has a seating area directly opposite the bar.

I carried on past the main bar, which leads you to the main dance floor, which
already had a large number of people dancing. This was due to CJ Mackintosh
dropping a very excellent selection of house music. I have to say its not often that
you hear a DJ warm up the night in the way CJ Mackintosh did. I don't think it could
have been done any better and I loved every record he played, so I will for sure have
to come down again as I would just love to hear him DJ when he is the main DJ.

All around the main dance floor were screens with visuals showing the City loud flyers,
which was a nice touch. I do think City Loud flyers are the coolest flyers around
and you can check out more of their flyers in our High Flyer Gallery.

The general dress was clubbing wear and it was nice to see that they were a mixture
of different kinds of dress. Some smart, some casual, trendy, freaky so the message
been dress to sort yourself as long as you do not take the piss and come in your
work clothes you should have no problem gaining entrance.

While I was standing by the DJ Box I noticed that a lot of people were checking
out to see who was actually on the decks. The City Loud crowd is certainly
seriously into their DJ's and music as I have not seen so many people keep coming
over to the DJ Box to check out who is actually playing.

After checking out CJ Mackintosh I headed to the back of the dance floor where you
will find another bar and to the left leads to a chill out room with a seating area and
the cloakroom is also situated here.

Another entrance from the chill out room leads you to a corridor, which in turn will
lead you to room 2 where the Funk Associates were playing, DJ Di Casa, Dan Rolfe,
Millska, along with a live vocal by Tonic, Saxophone by JP and percussion by Ben Dee.
This really expressive line up would surly grace any main room but tonight these guys
had to make way for the big time DJ's but I am sure their time will come.
I was really impressed with their selection of house music, which was why room
2 was packed out with people all getting on down to their tunes.

I headed quickly back to the main dance floor which by now was completely packed with
people dancing and I still was noticing people checking out who was actually on the decks,
yes everyone was waiting for the main man "The Godfather of house" Frankie Knukles.

I think it was about 1pm when Frankie Knukles replaced CJ Mackintosh, well what
ever time it was you just knew when Frankie Knukles took over from the shouts of
delight from the crowd who had been waiting all night for him to perform his magic.
As time went by the dance floor got more and more packed with people letting loose,
everyone in the crowd seemed delighted with his selection of house music,
which created the perfect atmosphere for City loud's 2nd Birthday bash.

The crowd at City Loud were friendly and very easy to chat to, I was really shocked when
2 girls come straight up to me for a chat, how cool is that. Hey if I was a bit more vain
I may have got a phone number, but I had another dumb moment in my life.

Through out the night every bar was packed and the bar staff were working very fast indeed
to cut down the queues, so yet again people were on a drinking buzz which must
surly please the owner of Turnmills.

The sound system was banging as you would expect from Turnmills, along with lighting,
smoke machine and UV lighting which all added to the atmosphere.

Many thanks to City Loud for providing us with yet another cool night out, and do watch
out for next month's party, the countdown has began…

I nearly forgot to say a very big thanks for the Mixed CD you got on entering City Loud
which is mixed by CJ Mackintosh. If you never bothered to get your hands on this CD
then you have missed out big time, cos its wicked! To buy a mixed CD like this as you
know will cost you your entrance fee so what a touch that I bothered to take one and
its over an hour long, Respect!

Before I sign of I have to say CJ Mackintosh is now one of my favorite
DJ's his music is Awesome! Listening to him play along with the mixed CD is
slowly giving me the desire to go and buy records and it has truly helped my mood
swings and mental state, House Music for your MIND, BODY & SOUL!
