The
pre-party, taking place in Clapham's ever
popular trend-setting bar The Whitehouse,
is the perfect way to get yourself in the
mood. Entrance is free with a flyer and
there will be free coaches to the main event
at Ministry of Sound leaving at 10.30pm
and 1.30am, so no excuse for slacking!
July is traditionally a tough month for
the UK club scene, many clubbers seeking
out sun and
fun on foreign shores and Defected are currently
enjoying a very successful season at Ibiza's
El Divino. But we are putting even more
effort into our UK commitments and continue
to
showcase the best DJ talent around, month
in month out.
First up, you don't need to be up on your
dance music to realize that New Jersey boy
Cevin Fisher is
a legend at work. You will instantly recognize
his tracks 'The Freaks Come Out' and
'(You Got Me) Burnin' Up' - two mega hits
that saturated every corner of global clubland
on release. Both reached the top 20 in the
UK and are still well remembered. This guy
has co-produced with Quincy Jones and Chaka
Khan and is widely regarded as a leading
figure in
the evolution of house music. See him first
at Defected In The House.
This month, former label face and now Defected
resident Seamus Haji
returns to the fray, making his debut at
Ministry. Seamus has a cool and soulful
musical style, switching to a tougher sound
when the crowd demands. He has the expert
ear of an A&R and producer, and years of
experience have given him an intuitive feel
for rocking the dancefloor. Seamus was actually
responsible for signing the Eddie Amador
track 'Rise' - what a coincidence, they're
playing together next month! He is also
famed for his rework of Tweet's instant
classic 'Boogie Tonight' and J Majik's
'Love Is Not A Game', and be assured he
will not disappoint on the dancefloor.
Also look out for the live percussion &
guitar accompaniment, provided throughout
the night by instrumental wizard Delesh
Chauhan. Delesh's skills have seen
him play alongside the likes of Roger Sanchez,
John Digweed and Norman Cook, often without
official permission but never without a
warm reception. Resident at Birmingham's
fuel for the last 2 years, Delesh has recently
diversified into studio work on Andy Ward's
Soul Central tracks and looks set to put
the finishing touches to an already promising
night.
Copyright are
Gavin Mills and
Sam Holt who, over the last 5 years,
have carved out a name for themselves with
their highly unique brand of soulful house.
Signed to like-minded label Soulfuric, they
have stayed true to their roots over the
years - developing a cool and sophisticated
peak-time sound. Producers of house classics
'Dancin', 'Where Would You Be' and 'Good
for You' on Soulfuric, they have also worked
with soulful diva's Lisa Millet and Angie
Brown and are currently ripping up dancefloors
with their fantastic rework of MAW's 'I
Can't Get No Sleep'.
Power FM's Martin
Metcalf, aka The Bad Boy, will be
making a special appearance in the Bar
and is sure to impress with his connoisseur's
ear for the finest in US house and garage.
His Friday night radio show has already
gained something of a cult following and
with a
Sony Radio Award nomination for his live
performance at the Winter Music Conference,
Martin's career as an international player
is set to run and run. You can sample the
fruits of his promoting labours as his Kindergarten
Club, the South Coast's finest house weekly,
takes over our Baby Box set this month.
Defected resident Jeremy B is no stranger
to Ministry having spent a number of years
touring with them worldwide. He is also
resident in Bournemouth for south coast
promoters Bump & Hustle and has been part
of the Saturday night Rulin line up for
the past 4 years. Jeremy's recording career
began with massive dancefloor anthem 'Livin'
On The Edge', which topped the Club Charts
and stayed there for two weeks. Further
success followed with his remix of R'n'B
singer Dorell Jones' 'You Know What's Up'
- going straight in to no.2 in the national
charts and staying there for 3 weeks. He
has since remixed, among others, Pink, Byron
Stingly, David Morales, Indo's 'R U Sleeping'
and Gramma Funk's 'Sneaky Armada'. Jeremy
will also be hosting
the official Defected pre-party.
All in all it's going to be another stormer.
See you Saturday.
