Another
month passes and so again the NICE
UP! crew roll into the East End of
London with their merry band of funksters.
Our last outing saw the incredibly
diverse C-Side Trax boggle a few minds
in the back room, with an impressive
freestyle display from their MC (managing
to rhyme random contests of a ladies
handbag!) alongside some fantastic
live showcases and magic tricks…guess
you had to be there!
Joining resident DJ SHEPDOG this month
is creator of the summers catchiest
and biggest dance tune MAX SEDGELY.
His single "HAPPY" crashed into the
top thirty this month after being
caned on the underground circuit for
over a year. It first landed on our
shores as an Italian import and after
being charted by taste makers such
as Gilles Peterson and Mr Scruff became
one of the most sought after 12"s
of recent times! Eventually picked
up by Sunday Best records and remixed
by Fatboy Slim and Spiritual South
(whose mix was used by ITV for their
Euro 2004 coverage) it can now be
found floating about in the national
charts. As a DJ, Max has received
high acclaim for his eclectic and
downright funky selection, winning
over crowds throughout the country
aswell as rocking dancefloors in Ibiza
this summer.
Serving up the soul, funk, hip-hop
and whatever-else-they-see-fit in
the back room we have 2 of Londons
music PR companies battling it out.
In the red corner is Gareth Watkins
(Zzonked) – also resident at the massive
Twisted Love @ Neighbourhood, as well
as nights at AKA and Market Place.
In the blue corner is Ben Smith (Best
Kept Secret) who can also be found
spinning around the city at love.is.audio,
A Love Supreme and the recent Version
boat parties. Both have a love of
all things soulful and funky so expect
a selection of classics as well as
upfront releases from their artist
roster (this could get nasty!)
We also have the added feature of
a Caribbean BBQ in the courtyard,
serving up some sizzling Jerk Chicken
as well as other tasty treats. All
this….and this is the best bit….
